Geert Lovink

Geert Lovink in 2010 Geert Lovink (born 1959, Amsterdam) is a Dutch media theorist, internet critic, and activist. He is the founding director of the Institute of Network Cultures (INC), which organizes events, publishes research, and facilitates dialogue around new media and digital culture.

Since 2004, Lovink has been a researcher with the Faculty of Digital and Media Creative Industries at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), where he leads the Institute of Network Cultures. In December 2021, Lovink was appointed Professor of Art and Network Cultures in the Art History Department at the University of Amsterdam. From 2004 to 2013, he was an associate professor of new media at the University of Amsterdam. From 2007 to 2017, he taught media theory at the European Graduate School, where he supervised five PhD students. In December 2021, he was appointed professor of art and network cultures at the University of Amsterdam Art History Department. Lovink earned his master's degree in political science at the University of Amsterdam, holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Queensland.
