The research presented in this book is the result of a professional and academic path that has allowed us to look hopefully at education and social reality. Believing in the transforming possibility of education and, therefore, in the ability of men and women to build a more just and humane society for all, we seek to verify what are the similarities between the theories of Jean Piaget and Paulo Freire, regarding aspects of moral development, and analyze the implications of these approaches for educational theory and practice. Always considering that education aims at autonomy and trains subjects capable of acting and thinking about reality, in a critical and more humane way.

A pesquisa apresentada neste livro é consequência de um percurso profissional e acadêmico que nos permitiu um olhar esperançoso para a educação e para a realidade social. Acreditando na possibilidade transformadora da educação e, logo, na capacidade de homens e mulheres de construir uma sociedade mais justa e humana para todos, buscamos verificar quais são as aproximações entre as teorias de Jean Piaget e Paulo Freire, quanto a aspectos do desenvolvimento moral, e analisar quais as implicações dessas aproximações para a teoria e a prática educativa. Considerando sempre que a educação vise à autonomia e forme sujeitos capazes de atuar e de pensar a realidade, de maneira crítica e mais humana.
