520 | |a In Germany the dual system of Vocational and educational training (VET) doesn't make any distinction between the diplomas according to the level of qualification. All diplomas offered within dual VET system are formally considered having an equivalent level. But there is a differentiation in terms of learning time of VET between two and three or three and a half years. Apprenticeships with a duration of two years of training are characterized by a limited profile regarding qualifications. The duration of VET is therefore used as a line of distinction between populations of apprentices in this article. This is to highlight some differences within the dual training system, causing further segmentations. This concerns for example the level of general education, which is lower for those in two years VET. Though young women have achieved a higher level of diplomas in general education than young men, young women more often get a place in a two years VET. In addition to the horizontal and vertical segmentation by gender, already well known, a further segmentation is added within the dual system of VET, from a gender as well as from an institutional perspective. | ||
