Summary: | Bruxism is a parafunction characterized by clenching and grinding of teeth, while making movements that are not part of the masticatory function and that lead to occlusal trauma. Although there are many signs and symptoms of bruxism, the most common sign is the presence of abnormal teeth wear. Recent studies showed the association between bruxism and other diseases, both in children and in adults. The present paper reviewed current studies of bruxism alterations, enclosed physiology and pathology, emphasizing its effects on dental structures in an attempt to ease the clinical diagnosis. |
