| Summary: | Pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) are the most commonly encountered neoplasm of the salivary glands and are well known for their vast variation in histological presentation. Composed of both epithelial and myoepithelial cells, the tumour often has background stroma with a mucoid, myxoid and/or chondroid appearance, which can be present individually or in combination. The case we describe displayed an unusual and uncommon histology with an amorphous and pauci-cellular stroma and diffuse Congo Red positivity, in keeping with amyloid. This report discusses the case, the relevant investigations and reviews the literature surrounding amyloid deposition within the salivary glands and within the head and neck. |
