Summary:Aim: to examine how nurses deal with death and religiosity in the care process. Method: exploratory research with qualitative approach, carried with twenty-one nurses of Oncology. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed according to Bardin's strategy of content analysis. Results: categories that bring conflicting ideas about the death, denial and acceptance; suffering and relief; professionalism and hope; emotions, feelings and just science; faith and technology emerged. Final Remarks: the nurse needs support coming from the academic background to deal with the death of and understand the attitudes, coping strategies involving elements of religiosity
