Research progress on the mechanisms by which plant-originated quorum sensing inhibitors inhibit pathogenic bacteria of acne
The main acne-causing bacteria are Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Quorum sensing, an important factor for bacterial survival, is closely associated with expression of bacterial virulence factors and biofilm formation. Although the quorum sensing types...

Summary: | The main acne-causing bacteria are Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Quorum sensing, an important factor for bacterial survival, is closely associated with expression of bacterial virulence factors and biofilm formation. Although the quorum sensing types of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis have been identified, the quorum sensing types of Propionibacterium acnes are still controversial. Plant-orginated quorum sensing inhibitors with few side effects have a greater potential in the treatment of acne. This article reviews the progress on the mechanisms by which plant-originated quorum sensing inhibitors inhibit pathogenic bacteria of acne. |
