It describes the different programs developed at both at prevention and assistance levels, as well as the means used to carry them out, and the main subjects concerning the population and assisted groups. Finally, it focuses on the importance of the nursing profession in the 21 st century both in preventive care and health promotion with special stress on education and its implications, taking in to account current conditions and threats such as the interference of politics in the health field.</p><br>En este artículo usted encontrará la recopilación de la experiencia vivida y cuidado brindado en el servicio social de enfermería a una comunidad de un departamento colombiano. Se describen los diferentes programas manejados a nivel de cuidado preventivo y asistencial, medios utilizados para desarrollarlos y principales temas demandados por la población y grupos atendidos. Finalmente se centra en la importancia de trabajar como profesionales de enfermería del siglo XXI en el cuidado preventivo y promoción de la salud con énfasis en la educación y todo lo que ella implica, atendiendo las oportunidades dadas por el momento actual y el vencimiento de amenazas tales como la politización de la salud | ||
