Summary:Hypoparathyroidism is characterized by insufficient parathyroid hormone (PTH) release from the parathyroid glands to maintain serum calcium level within normal limits and unresponsiveness of target tissues despite normal serum PTH level. Hypoparathyroidism is defined as low or inappropriately normal serum PTH level. In this narrative review, we discuss the etiology of hypoparathyroidism in children.
