Using the Ethnomethodology (based on the Human Communication Theory of Watzlawick), this study, which was conducted in a third-level hospital in Mexico, included 19 nurses. During data collection, interview and observation guides were applied from February to May, 2015. For the discussion, the theory discussed above was analyzed with the content analysis method. The nurses anticipate communication, confirm the most significant information, and point out the importance of ensuring patient safety when communicating. Concluding, nursing professionals encourage assertive communication within the team; nevertheless, this requires the active participation of all team members in order to obtain information with reciprocity and harmony, thus keeping an effective communication that avoids risks during surgical procedures. | ||
