Legislative arenas in Brazil and their committees: thematic organization, number of members, expertise and party composition

The present study carried out a panoramic analysis of the reality of committees dealing with sport in the three federation spheres. Four aspects were analyzed: thematic organization, the number of effective members, expertise, and party composition. The descriptive study included the analysis of 55 legislative arenas: 2 from the Union; 27 from the Federative Units and 26 capitals. The information was captured directly on the legislative website. The main results were: the prevalence are committees composed with other areas; there is variation in the number of members, especially when we compare the performance of the Union with other entities; lack of staff with expertise in the sports area; and prevalence of right-wing parties in committees. Given the diversity of scenarios, it is important to open a research agenda in order to understand the legislative process in sports matters.
