Summary: | In the recent years, Morocco has accomplished significant progress in the education enrolment of children. If access to primary education is widespread, yet many children leave school before the end of primary education. Given this situation, the Moroccan government is developing a non-formal education program for out-of-school children between the ages of 6 to 15 years old. However, available data suggest that the numbers of children benefiting from this program are still below the actual numbers of «out-of-school» children. Though the question of supply is worth being asked, results of a survey showed a low request by parents for the enrolment of their «out of school" children. The study - conducted at the Academy of Marrakech with parents registered in literacy programs - shows that adult literacy programs have only little impact on the education enrolment of their children, which is not always considered as an absolute necessity by these families according to their social and economic positions. |
