La leucoplasia vellosa (LV) es un marcador bucal de infección por VIH. La LV es una lesión asintomática que se presenta principalmente en los bordes laterales de la lengua. Por motivos estéticos, particularmente cuando las lesiones son muy extensas, algunos pacientes solicitan tratamiento. La resina de podofilina (RP) es un agente quimioterapéutico tópico ampliamente utilizado por los dermatólogos para tratar infecciones por virus de papiloma humano (VPH). Se presenta el caso clínico de un varón VIH+ de 32 años de edad y homosexual, que fue tratado por presentar LV bilateral en lengua. Se aplicó RP al 25 % en las lesiones. Luego de 2 semanas de tratamient , se apreció una involución significativa de la LV. El paciente reportó efectos secundarios mínimos que incluyeron sensación de ardor y dolor. Ningún efecto colateral sistémico fue reportado. Estos hallazgos preliminares sugieren que la RP al 25 % puede ser un tratamiento relativamente seguro y rentable para la LV en pacientes seropositivos .<br>Hairy leukoplakia (HL) is an oral marker of HIV infection. VL is an asymptomatic lesion that appears mainly in the lateral borders of the tongue. For aesthetic reasons, particularly when the lesions are very extense, some patients request treatment. The podophylum resin (PR) is a topical chemotherapeutic agent widely used by dermatologists to treat infections caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). The clinical case of a HIV + homosexual male aged 32 that was treated for presenting bilateral HL in the tongue, is reported. PR was applied to 25 % of the lesions. After 2 weeks of treatment, a significant involution of HL was observed. The patient showed minimum side effects that included heartburn sensation and pain. These preliminary findings suggest that PR 25 % may be a relatively safe and income-producing treatment for HL in seropositive patients.
