Description
Summary:The precarious social and sanitary conditions as well as the financial situation in the province of Almeria, at the beginning of the breeding grounds where ancient nurse and auxiliaries and other carers developed their tasks. In fact, their work was the real key factor to further developing and controlling the notions of concepts nowadays known as public health. Different activities, functions, worries, professional intrusion struggles at that time have been gathered together and considered for the purpose of tis paper. Document resources as well as studies and professional data have been consulted, especially the journal "El practicante almeriense", in order to offer the reader a reliable view of those professionals. The above mentioned journal, first edited mid July 1919, showed in detail problems and difficulties those health professionals had to face, and it was only in those pages where they could present their complains and express their opinions, desires, worries and anxieties. If presently, nursing once again, faces aims which will be a milestone in the profession, we feel very wrise to know history -nursing history- an important factor to be taken into consideration when planning our future horizon, bearing in mind clearly enough which steps should be followed.
