The infant was treated with an H2 blocker (Ranitidine) which was discontinued after a 99mTc pertechnetate radioisotope scan showed no residual heterotopic gastric mucosa. The child is asymptomatic and thriving at 2 years of age. HGM is a rare finding in the jejunum and its association with intestinal atresia has only been reported in five cases, three of whom had duodenal atresia as part of the Mitchell-Riley syndrome. This case highlights the importance of histologic examination of the resected bowel in intestinal atresia and demonstrates one approach to managing this unexpected finding.
