Summary

The article is based on a problem-theoretical analysis of scientific literature, which reveals the concept of "extracurricular activities of university students". The author talks about updating this concept in connection with the implementation of a new generation of educational standards and the introduction of a competency-based approach in the educational activities of a university. The purpose of this study is to comprehend extracurricular activities as part of the professional training of university students. Based on the analysis of domestic literature in the article, the concept of "extracurricular activities of university students" is presented by two research groups and considered as part of the educational process at the university and as an environment for students' personal development. The author interpreted the results of foreign researchers, studied approaches to the interpretation of this term as a specially organized process; it is concluded that the extracurricular activities of university students is a sociocultural phenomenon that affects vocational training - the formation of competencies. The author concludes that, taking into account modern realities, the extracurricular activities of university students should be understood as a form of social interaction of the subjects of the educational process, contributing to the professional and personal formation of students in an organized university environment. This article is addressed to teachers of higher education and organizers of extracurricular activities, as well as to all specialists and citizens interested in the effective professional training of future university graduates.
