Summary: | Abstract EASE (Educator, Administrator, Scholar, Evaluator) includes two parallel development programs for residency program directors and coordinators. Each of the 10 sessions comes with objectives, resource materials, assignments, and instructor guides. Resources include PowerPoint presentations on topics related to goals and objectives, recruitment and remediation of residents, evaluation of performance, teaching strategies, program evaluation, program accreditation, and educational scholarship. The presentations include materials from educators, with program directors and coordinators providing examples from their own experiences. Handouts for the sessions were developed from the literature and other resources. Examples for resident handbooks, goals, and objectives come from actual residency programs. Sessions frequently include small-group activities to encourage directors or coordinators to work together and learn from each other's experiences. Assignments were designed to apply what has been learned in the session to tasks that need to be done in a residency program. Other educators can use these materials directly to provide a development program for residency program directors and coordinators in their own locations. The program was evaluated based on the following: (1) On average, representatives from at least half of our residency programs attended each session. (2) We had significant improvement in completion of activities related to the residency program. (3) The program was perceived favorably and seen as a way to improve skills. |
