Summary: | In the two Peruvian Andes cities Cusco and Ayacucho, a program of affirmative action is being developed in order to assist students coming from both indigenous environments and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The social and cultural context of discrimination makes difficult their adaptation to university. The paper describes the conditions of these universities and students, and shows the ambiguities of the program. In spite of being a palliative, the program can also become an important tool for the transformation of the universities themselves. |
