Summary:This research is aimed to identify the applications and the results of teaching pronunciation by using sound association method to the first year students of SMP N 6 Sukoharjo. Sound association as a method means the teacher makes sound association by using Indonesian and Javanese language to help the students pronouncing the English words correctly. In this research, the writer collects the data by giving a pre-test at the first meeting then applying the sound association method in two cycles, every cycle consists of two meeting, and in every cycle she gives a post-test. In analyzing the data, the writer describes the procedure of teaching pronunciation by using sound association method before and after conducting research. After that, she describes the advantages and disadvantages, compares the result of the pre-test and post-test I and post-test II, and the last is discussion finding of teaching pronunciation by using sound association method. In pre-test the mean score is 41, 6 while in post-test I the mean is 64, 6 and then the mean of the post-test II is 75, 6. From the discussion above, the writer concludes that teaching pronunciation by using sound association method is successful to increase the pronunciation skill of the first students of SMP N 6 Sukoharjo. The students are able to produce English pronunciation correctly. They also more relaxed to practice pronouncing the
