Background: WHO noted that at this time (2006) there are 1.5 billion smokers in the world. The number of deaths due to tobacco consumption is a result of 4 million people / year. It is estimated that, by 2025, the number of deaths will double close to 7 million people, when cigarette consumption patterns continue. Smoking can cause health problems such as cancer, heart attacks, impotence, disorders of pregnancy and fetal. Objective: To determine the comparative effects of conventional cigarettes and herbal cigarettes on lung histological damage mice. Methods: This research uses experimental methods to approach post-test only control group design, the sample was taken by purposive sampling, 30 mice 2-3 month old male weighing 20-30 grams webster strain. Data analysis is done by using oneway ANOVA. Results: There are significant differences in the control group to the treatment group 1 with p = 0.000 in the control group, but there were no significant differences in treatment group 2 which has a value of p = 0.392 and in the treatment group 1 significant differences in treatment group 2 with a value of p = 0.013 . Conclusion: There is a difference between the lung histological damage in mice exposed to cigarette smoke conventional cigarettes with herbs. Herbal cigarettes still give effect to lung histological damage though carcinogens generated less than conventional cigarettes.
