520 |a This study aimed to describe increase in mathematical communication skills through a mathematical approach Realistic students of class IX B SMP Negeri 2 Kerjo. The research approach includes qualitative research. The study design, classroom action research conducted in collaboration between researchers with classroom teachers IX B, which is conducted in two cycles. The subject of the action recipients are students of class IX B SMP Negeri 2 Kerjo totaled 39 students. Researchers act as an observer and the subject of mathematics teachers act as a conduit of action. Data collection methods, namely, the method of observation, interviews, test methods, field notes, and documentation. Data analysis technique is done with the flow method of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validation was done by continuous observation and triangulation data. The results of the study, there was an increase in mathematical communication skills that can be observed from the increase in the percentage of indicators, namely (1) There is an increase in the ability of the oral aspects of 23.08% to 76.92% (2) There is an increase in the aspect of writing ability of 38, 46% to 84.62% (3) There is an increased ability to image aspects of 28.2% to 71.80% (4) There is an increased ability to explain aspects of the concept of 25.64% to 82.05%. This study concluded that the application of the approach Realistic Mathematics can improve communication skills of students in mathematics.
