Summary: | Background: The development of nutritional problems in Indonesia become more complex issues both malnutrition and excess nutrients. In Central Java, 2,736,543 toddlers, there are 481 632 children (17.6%) malnourished and moderate nutrient. Macro nutrient intake deficiency vulnerable at the age of 2-5 years. Lack of parent's knowledge, especially mothers is one of the malnutrition causes in children under five. Objective: To analyze relationship between mother's knowledge about balanced nutrition with protein, fat and carbohydrates in children aged 2-5 years in Posyandu Gonilan Kartasura. Methods: This study is observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The samples are 39 mothers with children aged 2-5 years with purposive sampling. Using a questionnaire 24-hour food recall and questionnaire mother's knowledge. Results: Fisher Exact Test found an association between mother's knowledge about balanced nutrition with protein intake (p 0.044). Chi-Square test found an association between mother's knowledge about balanced nutrition with fat (p 0.006) and carbohydrates (p 0.010) in children aged 2-5 years in Posyandu Gonilan Kartasura. Good mother's knowledge likely to provide a good intake (protein 9.692 times, 6.533 times fats, carbohydrates 8,100 times) in children aged 2-5 years compared with mother with less knowledge. Conclusions: There is a relationship between mother's knowledge about balanced nutrition with protein, fat and carbohydrates in children aged 2-5 years in Posyandu Gonilan Kartasura. |
