Summary: | Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacteria. S.aureus infections diseases is indicated by the tissue damage accompanied by suppurate abscess. The development of antibiotics are necessary to prevent the occurrence of bacterial resistance. The active compound sinnamaldehid and eugenol contained in the Cinnamomum burmanni essential oil can inhibit the growth and even kill S.aureus bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of antibiotic combination of ampicillin and Cinnamomum burmanni essential oils of toward S.aureus bacteria. Cinnamomum burmanni essential oils was obtained by using steam distillation and water. Antibacterial testing was done by using disk diffusion method. Both disk ampicillin and essential oil were put side by side. The distance between both disks was the calculation of each radical zone diameter. The test result considered as synergistic when both of the disk radical zone diameters overlap each other. It considered as antagonist if the radical zone is smaller than a single test, and considered indiferen if there is no changes in the diameter of both inhibition zone. The result of this study indicated that 100% of the essential oil concentration can inhibit the growth and kill S.aureus bacteria, 13.3 ± 0.41 mm and 15.3±0.41 mm. The combination of ampicillin and essential oils have an indiferen effect in the inhibition of S. aureus bacteria. Based on the paired sample t-test obtained significant values >0.05, means that there is no effect of a single sample and a combination toward the antibacterial activity. |
