Summary:Hypertension was one of the biggest health problems in the world that characterized by increased blood pressure a person to an increased risk of other diseases, for example stroke onset. Various factors can be modified to suppress the occurrence of hypertension increase both internally and externally. Internally capability hypertensive patients control their emotions themselves to the emergence of anxiety, stress and depression are needed. A person's emotional intelligence was a person's ability to control her emotions which impact on the ability to control emotions against the onset of the stressor. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of emotional intelligence to the degree of hypertension in Tanjungsari village, District Pacitan. This research was descriptif correlative study conducted on 50 patients with hypertension in the village Tanjungsari Pacitan with proportional random sampling technique. Data collection research using questionnaires and sphygmomanometer further analyzed using Spearman rank correlation test. The results of the analysis of Spearman rank correlation values (rs) of -0.330 (p-value = 0.019) that concluded there was emotional intelligence relationship with the degree of hypertension in Tanjungsari village, District Pacitan in 2015, namely the higher the emotional intelligence, the lower the degree of hypertension. The conclusion of this study were (1) the level of emotional intelligence respondents mostly lower, (2) the degree of hypertension respondents mostly grade I (mild), and (3) there was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and the degree of hypertension in Tanjungsari village, subdistrict Pacitan.
