Reached or not the purpose of learning mathematics can be seen on the success of students in solving mathematical problems. Detailed analysis of error is needed to reduce errors that can increase mathematics achievement. This research aimed to describe the error and to know the factor that influence student do the error in finishing story problemsof one variable linear equation. Kind of this research is descriptive qualitative. Subject of this research is 22 students consist of 14 students from VII A and 8 students from VII B in Muhammadiyah 8 Junior High School of Surakarta. Technique of collecting data in this reasearch use test methode, observation, interview, and documentation. There are three step technique to analyting data, they are reducting data, presenting data and verification data and also take a conclusion. Analysis plan developed by Newman erroranalysis. There are 4 kinds of error in this research, they are comprehension error, transformation error, process skills error, and encoding error. Mostly errors that happen on students are comprehension error and transformation error. General factor that influence the errors is caused by low student capability in translating question and understanding level and also low student creativity in identifying the real problem to mathematic model.
