Description
Summary:Background: Women experienced periodontal disorders after menopause. The decrease of estrogen in menopausal women lead to many changes in a woman's body, one of which is a change in the decreases of gingival health and often lead to the increased occurrence of periodontal disease. Destructive periodontal disease refers to the increase of inflammatory conditions into pocket formation, attachment loss of periodontal membrane towards the teeth due to the degradation of collagen and ultimately the loss of bone supporting the teeth. Scaling and root planing aimed to create a conductive environment for healthy periodontal tissue and to reduce the severity of disease. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of scaling and root planing on the reduction of Clinical Attachment Level (CAL) in menopausal women with periodontitis in Posyandu Lansia Mawar XII Pajang Village Subdistrict of Laweyan. Methods: The method used in this study was conducted by CAL measurements before and after scaling and root planing on 10 menopausal women with periodontitis. Results: The results obtained in this study was that there was a CAL reduction in menopausal women with periodontitis before scaling which owns the criteria of moderate disease to as many as six people (60%) into a slight disease to as many as five people (50%) and severe disease to as many as four people (40%) into moderate disease to as many as five people (50%). Conclusions: This study was tested by paired sample t-test and obtained the value p=0.000, therefore it can be concluded that scaling and root planing had a significant effect on the reduction of CAL in menopausal women with periodontitis in Posyandu Lansia Mawar XII Pajang Village in the Sub-district of Laweyan.
