Description
Summary:Salmonella typhi is a typical of Gram-negative bacterium commonly known as the major cause of typhoid fever. In West Java, the prevalence of typhoid fever reported in West Java Health Office in 2009 was 2.14 per 1,000. Infection-causing bacteria can be killed using antibiotics synthesis. Treatment of infection with antibiotic synthesis can cause unwanted side effects. Efforts to find an alternative in the treatment of infections is with the use of traditional medicine. Plants that have the potential as a natural antibacterial, among others gandola or binahong leaf, moringa leaf, guava leaf, leaf spider lily, beluntas leaf, patchouli leaf, tamarind leaves, leaf sembukan, fragrant pandan leaf, and the leaf of marigolds. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol 70% extract of leaves plantation which has the highest antibacterial activity on Salmonella typhi and the classification of compounds that have antibacterial activity. The extraction method used is maceration method using ethanol 70%. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) test was done by using stationary phase of Silica Gel GF254 and a mobile phase of chloroform: n-hexane: ethyl acetate (5: 5: 4 v/v/v) with 10% concentration stocks. Kirby Bauer method was used to determine the antibacterial activity. The content of the extract at 15μl/disk with 20% concentration of per leaf extract. The bioautografi method used was bioautografi direct contact. Screening results obtained leaf extract which has the largest diameter of inhibitory zone which patchouli leaf extracts with inhibition zone diameter of 11.8 ± 0.28 mm. Results TLC 70% ethanol extract patchouli leaves indicate the presence of compounds terpenoids, phenolic and flavonoid. Bioautografi results indicate that the compounds responsible for antibacterial flavonoids compound.
