Summary

A composite material made from natural fibers and use the stalks of reeds epoxy resin. Fiber as reinforcement while the matrix as an adhesive / binder of composites. Differences variation reeds stalk fiber volume fraction: 30%, 40%, 50%. This study aims to determine the optimal volume fraction using three mechanical testing is test of bending, impact, and drag. The results of the study reeds stalk fiber composites shows that the most optimal bending strength at 40% volume fraction (fiber) and 60% (matrix) with a value of 51.56 MPa. On testing the impact toughness impact on the optimal volume fraction of 40% (fiber) and 60% (matrix) with a value of 10460 J / mm2. While the tensile test the tensile strength of the most optimal at 40% (fiber) and 60% (matrix) with a value of 30.058 MPa. Of the three tests can be concluded that the variation of fiber composite reed stalks best and optimal volume fraction of 40%: 60%.
