When uploading the photos and videos, users usually perform the selective self-presentation by selecting and manipulating the photos and videos that are being uploaded, along with their captions as well. The problem formulation in this research was how is the selective self-presentation (SSP) done by the Communication Studies students of Muhammadiyah University Surakarta on Instagram in onsideration of the hyperpersonal approach? The research method used was qualitative method, while the data collection technique in this research is using semi-structured interview as well as non-participant observations towards the informants' Instagram accounts. The informants in this research were eight Communication Studies students of Muhammadiyah University Surakarta who actively using Instagram. The results of this research showed that the forms of SSP usually done by the students on Instagram are selecting the photos and videos that fits to criteria and angle which set by their preferences, manipulating the photos with editor and writing caption that gave such positive impressions or even quotes, with the purpose of gaining the proper feedback that fits their expectations.
