| Summary: | This paper entitles An Analysis of Translation Procedures of Dialogues in the Novel "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". This research investigates the translation procedures are used and the translation procedure is mostly applied in translating the dialogues in the novel. The researcher employed qualitative research design characterizing principles of descriptive-qualitative method. The primary data were taken from the original and translation texts. The researcher analyzed the data by using Newmark's criteria of translation procedures (1988). The findings of the research reveal that the translator used nine procedures- through-translation, reduction and expansion, naturalization, paraphrase, shift or transposition, synonymy, couplets, transference, and cultural equivalent- and through-translation procedure is mostly applied in translating the dialogues in the novel. The translator mostly applied the through-translation procedure in order to maintain the accuracy of the translation result and make the translation easier to understand by the readers. By conducting this research, the researcher can take a conclusion that the choice of translation procedure largely makes effect to the reception of the source language text in the target language. So, the use of each procedure should be aimed as a tool to help the readers relax and enjoy the novel completely. |
