This study involved 34 year eight students who were voluntarily chosen as research participants at a Junior High School Bandung. Observation, interview, and lesson plan analysis were employed to obtain data needed. Data from observation was analyzed to identify exchange patterns of teacher-students interaction, while data from interview and lesson plan were analyzed to justify the result of the observation data. The result shows the teacher employed more non-negotiated exchanges (52%) than negotiated exchanges (48%). It indicates that the teacher directly presented the information to the students. In other words, the teacher-students interaction exchange pattern in this study was categorized as giver-receiver pattern (Hills, 1979). It was recommended that English teacher was expected to apply interaction patterns by considering the students' characteristic in teaching learning process. By applying this, the students were expected to be involved in the interaction actively, hence they are able to relate their own experiences with the topic learned effectively and also they have more opportunities when the teachers do not limit their participation by allowing some negotiations.
