Summary:Speaking anxiety is becoming important area of research in education. This research investigated the levels, types, and causes of speaking anxiety perceived by junior high school students. A descriptive method is used to answer those questions. An adaptation questionnaire of Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale from Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope's (1991) is administered to 34 students of a private junior high school. Besides identified the level of students' anxiety, students then can be analyzed their type of anxiety. Interview was also conducted to complement the data gathered. Results of the data analysis suggest that significant foreign language anxiety is experienced by many students. Twenty one students are identified in mildly anxious level. Most of them are facing communication apprehension type of anxiety. Moreover, this study concludes that internal and external factors might determine level of each student's anxiety. The next study is suggested to explore about how to facilitate low speaking anxiety classroom.
