It also analyzes the types of swearwords found in the film in term of grammatical patterns. In the process of analyzing the data, there are some steps conducted by the writer. The first step is selecting the dialogs containing swearwords. Then, the swearwords are classified into particular types in term of grammatical patterns as proposed by Andersson and Trudgill. Finally, each swearword is analyzed by using Gottlieb's and Katan's theories to reveal the strategies for subtitling swearwords. The research findings are that the swearwords uttered in the film which are categorized into four types of swearwords I term of grammatical patterns: 1) Major Constituent of a Sentence / MCS (31 items, 23.7%); 2) Part of a Constituent of a Sentence / PCS (27 items, 20.6%); 3) Separate Utterance / SU (45 items, 34.3%); 4) Adsentence / AD (28 items, 21.4%). Moreover, the result of the analysis established that the subtitler of the film employed 6 strategies that are: Deletion (42 items, 32.1%), Transfer (4 items, 3%), Chunking Up (2 items, 1.5%), Chunking Down (1 items, 0.8%), and Chunking Sideways (44 items, 33.6%). The total number of the strategy used is 93 times. As a matter of fact, t is smaller than the number of the strategy that reached 131 items of swearwords. This fact implies that the rest of the swearwords (38 items) is handled neither by Gottlieb's nor Katan's strategy. Therefore, in this research, they are considered by the name of replacement. | ||
