Description
Summary:The research entitled "The Study of Word-formation Processes in Internet Forum" was aimed at investigating the word-formation and context of situation in Kaskus internet forum. The research mainly used descriptive qualitative method based on Yule (1996), Stageberg (2000), Chaer (1994), O'Grady and Guzman (1996), and Katamba (1993) theories of word formation processes. In addition, Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th edition by Wehmeier, S, Ed is also used to support the analysis. The data of this research were written texts and taken from 75 Kaskus comments in one thread of English sub-forum in Kaskus. The researcher did not inform anything about the research to the Kaskusers, so that they would not be aware and worry if their comments were actually being recorded. The findings showed that Kaskusers were very creative and innovative in using the language in Kaskus forum. It was seen from some English word-formation processes found in Kaskus such as acronym, blending, and compounding. It also showed that Kaskusers tried to make simple words that could be mentioned easily. Findings also showed that the derivation was the highest frequencies of word-formation processes used by Kaskus members in interacting and giving the comment. Moreover, Kaskusers were very enthusiastic in answering questions posted by other Kaskusers especially which was connected to their experience.
