This study is entitled An Analysis of Translation Procedures and Implicit Referential Meaning in the Sherlock Holmes' Film Translation. The purposes of this research are to study the translation procedures and to know how English implicit referential meanings were translated into Indonesian by the translator. The dialogues with implicit referential meanings were taken as data, analyzed using a qualitative method, and presented using a descriptive method. The translation procedures used in this study is proposed by Newmark (1988) while for the theory of implicit referential meaning is expounded by Larson (1984). The results of this research revealed that the translator used several categories of translation procedure in translating the film dialogues, namely couplets, reduction and expansion, synonymy, literal, shift, modulation, paraphrase, and cultural equivalent. In terms of implicit referential meaning, the results showed that most of English implicit referential meanings were translated implicitly in Indonesian. Regarding this, the study showed that the translator considers the language system of Indonesian in order to make appropriate adjustments in the translation.
