Summary:This research is entitled "An Analysis of the Students' Translation of an Online Advertisement in the Terms of Methods and Quality: A Case Study Done in the Seventh Semester of English Education Department of UPI 2010". It investigates the English-Indonesian translation of an online advertisement published by Sari Ater Hot Spring Resort Subang. The purposes of this research are to find out the methods used by the participants and its quality. Qualitative data are used in doing this research. The data were gained from the official website of Sari Ater. The data were delivered to the participants by email so were the translation results. The methods used were analysed by using Newmark Theory (1988) while the quality of translation was analysed by using Larson Theory (1984). The findings show that the methods mostly used by the participants from the highest to the lowest percentages are literal translation (34.07%), semantic translation (25.93%), word-for-word translation (16.30%), communicative translation (8.89%), faithful translation (6.67%) and free translation (0.74%). Besides, there is mistranslation (7.40%). Regarding to the quality of the translation, there are 61.48% of sentences which have good quality of translations. Thus, this research concludes that literal translation can achieve good translation if it is used in the proper case of translation.
