The background of this research is the lack of the eight grade students of SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2 Bandung academic year 2013/2014 in writing guguritan. Therefore, by the Cooperative STAD learning model, the students are expected to be able to overcome this problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the significant difference between the ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2 Bandung in writing guguritan before and after the treatment by using the Cooperative STAD learning model. The method used was quasi- experimental study with pre-test and post-test group design. The technique used in this research was test. And the instrument used was a written test. The results of this study stated that : (1) the ability to write guguritan which was showed by the average score of the students before using the Cooperative STAD learning model was 53,96; (2) the ability to write guguritan which was showed by the students score after using Cooperative STAD learning model was 73,03; and (3) the significant difference between the ability to write guguritan before and after using the Cooperative STAD teaching model based on the t-test was ( 8.82 ) > ttable ( 2.46 ) . It proves that the Cooperative STAD learning model can improve the ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2. Latar belakang dalam penelitian ini adalah kurangnya kemampuan menyusun guguritan siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2013-2014. Oleh karena itu, dengan adanya model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD diharapkan siswa bisa mengatasi persoalan tersebut. Tujuan dalam ini penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui beda yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis guguritan siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2 Bandung sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode studi kuasi eksperimen, pretest and posttest group design. Teknik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik tes. Dan instrumen yang digunakannya adalah tes uraian. Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa: (1) kemampuan menyusun guguritan sebelum menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD rata-rata nilainya 53,96; (2) kemampuan menyusun guguritan sesudah menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD rata-rata nilainya 73,03; dan (3) beda yang signifikan antara kemampuan menyusun guguritan sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD berdasarkan hasil titung (8,82) > ttabel (2,46). Hal ini membuktikan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD bisa meningkatkan kemampuan menyusun guguritan kepada siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Kartika Siliwangi XIX-2 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2013-2014.
