Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi atas keingintahuan peneliti terhadap keefektifan metode Turnamen Membaca pada pembelajaran membaca pemahaman. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas X SOS 3 sebagai kelas eksperimen sebanyak 30 siswa dan X SOS 4 sebagai kelas kontrol sebanyak 30 siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mengetahui kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa di kelas eksperimen, (2) untuk mengetahui kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa di kelas kontrol dan (3) untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa di kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, maka digunakanlah metode penelitian eksperimen kuasi melalui tes awal-tes akhir pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol (pre-test post-test control group design). Teknik penelitian dalam penelitian ini meliputi teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes dan teknik pengolahan data yang meliputi uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis menggunakan rumus uji t. Perencanaan pembelajaran membaca pemahaman dalam penelitian ini merupakan aplikasi dari metode turnamen membaca. Pada penelitian ini perlakuan diberikan dengan membentuk kelas menjadi beberapa kelompok dan setiap anggota kelompok tersebut harus bekerja sama satu sama lain demi meraih poin terbanyak. Selain siswa harus bekerja sama untuk menyusun kalimat acak, seluruh siswa juga harus bekerja sama untuk menemukan fakta, opini dan informasi penting lainnya dalam teks eksposisi yang telah disusunnya tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan tes awal dan tes akhir pada kedua kelas tersebut diperoleh bahwa bahwa t_hitung ≥ t_tabel atau 2,302 ≥ 2,002. Hal ini berarti Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima, atau dengan perkataan lain terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa di kelas eksperimen dan siswa di kelas kontrol. Berdasarkan pengujian hipotesis tersebut maka peneliti menyarankan kepada guru Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk menggunakan metode Turnamen Membaca pada pembelajaran membaca pemahaman, karena metode ini mampu meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap teks yang mereka baca dengan baik. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya, disarankan untuk menerapkan metode ini dengan teknik pembelajaran yang lebih kreatif dan menggunakan teks jenis lainnya yang lebih menarik serta penelitian bisa dilakukan pada jenjang sekolah yang lebih tinggi atau lebih rendah. This research is conducted as the curiosity of researcher of the effectiveness of Turnamen Membaca method in reading comprehension. This research did in class X SOS 3 as an experimental class and X SOS 4 as an control class. The purpose of this study was (1) to determine the ability of reading comprehension of students in the experimental class, (2) to determine the ability of reading comprehension of students in the control class, and (3) to determine the difference between reading comprehension ability of students in the experimental class and the control class. To achieve these purpose, then the researcher used a quasi-experimental research method through pre-test post-test control group design. Engineering research in this study include data collection techniques such as testing and data processing techniques which include normality test, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using t-test formula. Learning reading comprehension planning in this study is the application of the method to read the tournament. In this study the treatment given by forming the class into groups and each group member must cooperate with each other to won the most points. In addition students must work together to draw up a random sentence, all students must work together to find the facts, opinions and other important information in the text that have been drawn exposition. Based on the calculation results of the initial test and final test on these two classes is obtained that t_value ≥ t_table or 2.002 ≥2.302. This means that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted, in other words, there are significant differences in reading comprehension ability of the students in the experimental class and the students in the control class. Based on the hypothesis testing, the researcher suggests to Bahasa teachers to use the Turnamen Membaca method on learning reading comprehension, because this method is able to enhance the students's understanding of the text that they read well. For further research, it is recommended to apply this method with a more creative learning techniques and the use of other types of text that is more interesting and the research can be done at school level higher or lower.
