520 | |a Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya permasalahan yang peneliti temukan pada kegiatan pra-penelitian yakni rendahnya keterampilan menyimak siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Hal tersebut terlihat dari perilaku siswa yang sama sekali tidak menunjukan respon positif dan kurang antusias menyimak paparan guru maupun penyaji selama pembelajaran berlangsung. Menyadari hal tersebut dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) sebagai langkah efektif yang dipilih peneliti guna meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa kelas VII-E dalam pembelajaran IPS. Pada praktiknya implementasi metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) dalam penelitian tindakan kelas ini memanfaatkan penggunaan wacana yang mengangkat masalah kontekstual untuk mengefektifkan peningkatan keterampilan menyimak siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut tujuan utama dilakukan penelitian ini yakni untuk mengetahui bagaimana merencanakan dan melaksanakan metode pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS, selain itu penelitian ini pun bertujuan untuk mengetahui apa saja kendala yang dihadapi selama melaksanakan metode tersebut serta bagaimana upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi kendala tersebut. Setelah dilaksanakan penelitian sebanyak empat siklus, diperoleh hasil bahwa keterampilan menyimak siswa mengalami peningkatan. Hal ini ditandai dengan tercapainya seluruh indikator keterampilan menyimak, pencapaian tersebut dapat dilihat dari meningkatnya antusias dan respon postif siswa dalam menyimak paparan guru, timbulnya inisiatif dan kesadaran siswa mengenai pentingnya konsentrasi dan ketajaman indera pendengaran dalam aktivitas menyimak, siswa mampu aktif selektif memilih informasi bersifat inti dari wacana yang disimak, siswa mampu menginterpretasi catatan hasil menyimak guna mendeskripsi dan merancang solusi permasalahan, serta mampu mempresentasikan laporan hasil diskusinya secara langsung. Kata kunci: Metode Pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC), Keterampilan Menyimak The background of the research is that there was a problem found by the researcher on the pre-research that is the low students' listening skill on the social sciences subject. It was seen on the students' behavior which did not show any positive respond and less enthusiasm in listening the explanation from the teacher or lecturer during the lesson. Realizing the problem on this research, the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning method was used by the researcher as an effective step to improve the listening skill of VII-E class students on social sciences subject. In practice, the implementation of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method in this action research utilized the use of discourse in which taking up a contextual problem in optimizing the improvement of students' listening skill on social sciences subject. Related to the things above, the main purpose of this research is to find out the way to plan and implement the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning method to improve students' listening skill on social sciences subject. In addition, another purpose of this research is to find out any problems faced by the students during the implementation of the method and to find out the way conducted to solve the problems. After conducting a four-cycle research, it obtained that the students' listening skill was improved. It was shown through the achievement in all indicators of listening skill. It can be seen through the improved enthusiasm and positive respond from the students in listening teacher's explanation, the emerged students' initiative and awareness on the importance of concentration and the sharpness of sense of hearing in listening skill, the active-selective ability of the students in selecting the main information from the listened discourses, the ability of the students in interpreting their note towards the listened discourses to describe and plan the solution of the problems, and the ability of the students in presenting their discussion reports directly.
