Penelitian ini berasal dari keresahan peneliti terhadap permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas VIII-D SMP Negeri 7 Bandung terkait dengan kemampuan asertif siswa. Permasalahan ini merupakan temuan dari observasi yang dilakukan pada beberapa kali pertemuan, ketika melakukan praktik mengajar. Indikator permasalahan pada kemampuan asertif siswa yang dijumpai adalah kurangnya kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat, proses interaksi, dan menghadapi berbagai situasi yang dilakukan siswa saat proses pembelajaran IPS. Kurangnya kemampuan berpendapat pada siswa di kelas VIII-D ini terlihat saat siswa kurang aktif dalam memberi pendapat dan menghargai pendapat orang lain saat proses pembelajaran. Kemudian saat proses komunikasi terlihat siswa sering mengejek, sehingga hal tersebut dapat menyakiti perasaan temannya. Dan saat menghadapai berbagai situasi saat proses pembelajaran siswa masih belum bisa mengekspresikan perasaan pada situasi-situasi tertentu, sehingga mereka bersikap tidak terkontrol dan mengganggu orang lain. Melihat fenomena tersebut, perlu disusun model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan asertif siswa. Sehingga peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model penelitian Kemmis dan Taggart. Alternatif pemecahan masalah yang dipilih yaitu penggunaan metode Role Playing dalam pembelajaran IPS. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi kemampuan asertif, catatan lapangan, dan studi dokumentasi. Sedangkan dalam proses pengolahan data dan analisis data menggunakan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil akhir dari penelitian yang dilakukan dalam 3 siklus dan dilaksanakan dalam 12 pertemuan dengan penerapan metode role playing ini, nampak peningkatan kemampuan asertif siswa dalam membuat keputusan dan percaya pada pendapat sendiri, dapat menghargai pendapat orang lain, mengungkapkan perasaan personal dengan tidak menyakiti orang lain, memiliki percaya diri dalam berkomunikasi, berbicara dengan santun, bersikap tegas pada teman yang mengganggu, dan siswa tidak mengejek saat ada hal yang dianggap lucu. ;--- This research comes from the anxiety of researchers against the problems occurred in class VIII-D SMP Negeri Bandung 7 related to the ability of asertif students. This issue is the findings of the observation is done at some times, when the practice of teaching. Indicators of problems in the ability of the asertif students who encountered is the lack of ability of the suggested process, interaction, and facing various situations that students do when learning IPS. The lack of ability of the opinion on the students in the class VIII-D looks when students are less active in giving opinions and appreciate opinions of others while learning process. Then when the communication process looks students often mocked, so that it can hurt the feelings of his friend. And by the time he was a variety of situations when the learning process of the students still have not been able to express feelings in certain situations, so they are being controlled and not disturb others. Viewed such phenomena, it needs to be compiled model of learning that can enhance the capabilities of asertif students. So the researchers chose Studies class action (PTK) and research models of Kemmis and Taggart. An alternative workaround chosen, namely the use of the role playing methods in social science learning. The instruments used are observation ability of sheet asertif, notes field, and study the documentation. While in the process of data processing and data analysis using qualitative and quantitative. Based on the final results of the research conducted in three cycles and implemented in 12 meetings with the application of role playingmethod, saw an increase in the ability of asertif students in making informed decisions and believe in his own opinion, can appreciate the opinions of others, reveal personal feelings by not hurting others, have confidence in communicating, talking with manners, be assertive on the annoying friend , and students do not scoff when there are things that are considered cute.
