Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan permasalahan belajar siswa yang rendah dan pelaksanaan pembelajaran menggunakan metode ceramah tanpa menggunakan media yang menarik pada saat proses pembelajaran. Sehingga siswa kurang aktif dalam pembelajaran sehingga terlihat monoton membuat siswa kurang semangat dalam belajar dan memahami materi. Untuk itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa pada pelajaran IPS dengan menerapkan Model Pembelajaran Word Square. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang diambil dengan desain PTK oleh Kemmis dan Mc Taggart yang dilaksanakan melalui melalui dua siklus dengan materi Perjuangan Mempertahankan Kemerdekaan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen tes dan Evaluasi, sedangkan instrumen pengumpulan data berupa lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa serta lembar observasi keaktifan siswa. Hasil penelitian diantaranya menyimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran Word Square mampu meningkatkan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS di SD. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari presentasi hasil belajar siswa pada siklus I yang tuntas sebesar 33,33% dan yang tidak tuntas sebesar 66,66%. Pada siklus I ini belum ada peningkatan hasil belajar yang signifikan, hal ini dibuktikan dari 28 siswa terdapat 18 siswa yang tidak tuntas. Pada siklus II siswa yang tuntas sebesar 100% dan yang tidak tuntas sebesar 0%. Sehingga dari siklus I dan siklus II mengalami peningkatan hasil belajar yang sangat baik yakni sebesar 66,67%. Kaitannya dengan keaktifan belajar siswa pada siklus I terlihat keaktifan siswanya berada pada kategori sedang yakni sebesar 67% dan pada siklus II terlihat bahwa keaktifan belajar siswa pada siklus II tergolong pada kategori sangat tinggi yakni sebesar 97%. Sehingga keaktifan belajar siswa pada siklus I dan Siklus II mengalami peningkatan. Selain itu penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa penggunaan Model Pembelajaran Word Square dapat meningkatkan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS. Adapun rekomendasi yang diberikan yakni untuk sekolah agar sekolah memfasilitasi guru untuk menggunakan model pembeljaran, dan guru dapat menerapkan model pembelajaran Word Squre, dan bagi peneliti selanjutnya agar dapat memperhatikan waktu pada saat pelaksanaan penelitian;--- This research deals with problems of low student learning and teaching practices using the lecture method without use of media interest during the learning process. So that students are less active in learning so that it looks monotonous makes students less enthusiasm in learning and understanding the matrial. For this study aims to determine the increase in activity and student learning outcomes in social studies by applying the Word Learning Model Square. This study is a class action that was taken with the design of PTK by kemmis and and Mc Taggart implemented through two cycles with materials Maintain Independence Struggle. The data collection is done by using test instruments and evaluation, while the data collection instruments such as observation sheet activities of teachers and students as well as student activity observation sheet. The results of such studies concluded that learning by applying the learning model Word Square is able to enhance the activity and student learning outcomes in social studies in elementary school. It can be seen from the presentation of student learning outcomes in the first cycle were completed amounting to 33.33% and that is not finished by 66.66%. In the first cycle has been no significant increase in learning outcomes, as evidenced from the 28 students there are 18 students who did not complete. In the second cycle students who completed at 100% and that is not finished at 0%. So from the first cycle and the second cycle increased the excellent study results which amounted to 66.67%. Relation to the students' learning activeness in the first cycle looks activeness of students in middle category by 67% and the second cycle seen that the activeness of students in the second cycle belonging to the category of very high, amounting to 97%. So that the activeness of students in the first cycle and the second cycle increased. In addition these studies show that the use of Model Learning Word Square can enhance the activity and student learning outcomes in social studies. The recommendations given namely for schools to facilitate school teachers to use p models, and the teacher can apply the Word Square learning model, and for further research in order to pay attention to the time at the time of the study.
