Summary:This study aims to discover the effectiveness of peer feedback technique through e-mail and students' improvement in writing narrative text. While carrying out the research, quasi-experimental research method was employed. Sixty students of tenth grade at one of senior high schools in Cimahi in the academic year 2015/2016 were being the sample in which there were two groups that involved in this study. The data were collected through students' score in writing a narrative text that were sent by e-mail as pre-test, post-test and the questionnaire was used to reveal the students' response towards peer feedback through e-mail. The obtained data were analyzed based on ESL Composition Profile proposed by Jacob et al. (1981). The statistical computation showed that peer feedback is likely effective in improving students' writing ability in writing narrative text (tobt 9.294 > tcrit 2.045). The study argues that the use of peer feedback is a valuable method in EFL learning especially in writing. However, the use of e-mail as the media gives students opportunity to follow the modern era. ;--- Penelitian ini dibuat untuk menemukan keefektifan dari teknik umpan balik dari teman melalui e-mail dan peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks narasi. Penelitian yang menggunakan metode kuasi-eksperimental ini melibatkan enam puluh siswa dari kelas sepuluh pada tingkat sekolah menengah atas di Cimahi pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Data yang terkumpul adalah berupa skor yang didapat setelah siswa menulis teks narasi yang kemudian dikirimkan melalui e-mail kepada temannya sebagai pre-test dan post-test. Kuisioner digunakan untuk mengetahui respon dari siswa terhadap teknilk umpan balik dari teman melalui e-mail. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan ESL Composition Profile yang dikemukakan oleh Jacob et.al. (1981). Hasil penghitungan statistik menunjukkan bahwa umpan balik dinilai efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks narasi (tobt 9.294 > tcrit 2.045). Penelitian ini mengemukakan bahwa penggunaan umpan balik merupakan metode yang bermanfaat terutama dalam pembelajaran EFL khususnya pada keterampilan menulis. Penggunaan e-mail sebagai media dapat memberi kesempatan pada siswa untuk mengikuti perkembangan teknologi.
