Summary:The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying a mathematical investigation approach to enhace the ability of understanding mathematics (conceptual and procedural) and higher-order mathematical thinking skills (critical thinking, creative thinking, and mathematical reasoning); and how much influence (direct and indirect) caused by latent variables (mathematical understanding) on the other latent variables (higher level thinking skills), and vice versa, in a construct structural equation modeling. This research method was Quasi-Experimental design with pre-posttest design. Data analysis using a mixed method with Embedded design. Research subjects were regular students enrolled in 2014 at the study program of education of Prospective Elementary school teachers. The number of research subjects were 111 students consisting of 56 students in the experimental group and 55 students in the control group. The conclusions of this study are (1) the mathematical investigation approach can enhance the ability of understanding mathematics (conceptual and procedural) and high-level thinking skills (critical thinking, creative thinking, and mathematical reasoning) significantly; (2) No effect of interaction between the learning approaches (mathematical investigation and expository) and mathematical prior knowledge to enhance the ability of understanding mathematical and higher-order mathematical thinking skills; and (3) There is a direct influence between latent variables, namely, mathematical understanding and higher-order mathematical thinking skills. Furthermore, the indirect influence between latent variables and manifest variables is positive and its value is quite varied. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan pendekatan investigasi matematik terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematik (konseptual dan prosedural) dan kemampuan berpikir matematika tingkat tinggi (berpikir kritis, berpikir kreatif, dan penalaran matematika); serta berapa besar pengaruh (langsung dan tidak langsung) yang ditimbulkan oleh variabel laten (pemahaman matematika) terhadap variabel laten lainnya (kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi), dan sebaliknya, dalam suatu konstruk model persamaan struktural. Metode penelitian ini adalah eksperimen tipe Quasi-Experimental design dengan pre-posttest design. Desain analisis data menggunakan mixed method dengan tipe Embedded design. Subyek penelitian adalah mahasiswa reguler angkatan 2014 yang terdaftar pada program studi PGSD, sejumlah 111 mahasiswa, dimana kelas kontrol sebanyak 55 mahasiswa dan kelas eksperimen sebanyak 56 mahasiswa. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah (1) pendekatan investigasi matematika dapat meningkatkan pemahaman matematika (konseptual dan prosedural) dan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (berpikir kritis, berpikir kreatif, dan penalaran matematis) secara signifikan, (2) Tidak ada pengaruh interaksi antara variabel pendekatan pembelajaran (investigasi matematik dan ekspository) dengan kemampuan awal matematika terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematik mahasiswa maupun pada peningkatan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi, dan (3) adanya pengaruh langsung positif antar variabel laten yang terjadi secara timbal balik, yaitu antara pemahaman matematik dan berpikir tingkat tinggi dengan besar pengaruh langsung sebesar 1,55 dan koefisien determinasi sebesar 0,71. Sedangkan pengaruh tidak langsung antar variable laten dengan variabel manifest bernilai positif dan terjadi secara bervariasi.
