The data include the novel written by Andrea Hirata in Indonesian and its English translation by Angie Kilbane. The analysis focuses on the realization of cohesion in the original novel based on Eggins' (2004) categorization of cohesive devices and the way the cohesion is transferred into the translated version based on Newmark's (1988) translation methods. It is found that there are many lexical cohesive devices applied by the writer in his novel, and the most frequent is similarity. It is also found that there are many translation methods used in this translated novel, and the most frequent is literal translation.
