Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara optimisme dengan onset ketunanetraan pada penyandang disabilitas netra dewasa awal di PSBN Wyata Guna Kota Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif korelasional dengan teknik analisis Point Bisserial Correlation. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik simple random sampling dengan jumlah 114 penyandang disabilitas netra dewasa awal di PSBN Wyata Guna. Instrumen pada penelitian ini adalah Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R). Hasil yang diperoleh adalah tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara optimisme dengan onset ketunanetraan pada penyandang disabilitas netra dewasa awal, yakni dengan nilai korelasi sebesar 0,09130 pada tingkat signifikansi 0,43707 (p<0,05). Artinya, baik pada onset ketunanetraan early blind maupun late blind tidak ada perbedaan dalam hal optimisme. Data tambahan diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan teknik depth interview. Hasil wawancara menunjukan adanya faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi optimisme, yaitu: kemampuan menghadapi hambatan, adanya tujuan hidup (goals) yang berarti, pengharapan (expectancy) terhadap masa depan yang didorong oleh self-esteem yang tinggi dan peran eksternal seperti orang tua, teman, pasangan dan lembaga yang mendukung baik secara moril maupun materil.----------This research was aimed to examine relationship between optimism with the onset of blindness in early adulthood blind people at PSBN Wyata Guna Bandung. This research used the quantitative approach with Point Bisserial Correlation technique. The determination of sample in this research used a simple random sampling technique with 114 respondens. The instrument in this research are Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R). The result showed there is no significant correlation between optimism with the onset of blindness, with correlation index 0,0913 at 0,43707 (p<0,0) level of significancy. Which means there is no correlation between optimism both in early blind and late blind. Additional data is founded by depth interview technique. The result showed that there are some factors that influenced optimism in blind person. First, skill to deal with obstacles. Second, meaningful goals. Third, expectancy for future that needed a positive self-esteem, and the last, role of family, friends, spouse and institution that support them both moral and material.
