Summary:Masalah yang dihadapi orang tua dalam pengasuhan anak seperti, merawat dalam keseharian dan berkomunikasi. Fokus penelitian ini diarahkan pada bagaimana pemahaman orang tua terhadap kondisi ketunagrahitaan anak. Sikap orang tua tentang ketunagrahitaan anak, masalah yang dialami orang tua dalam pengasuhan anak tunagrahita serta upaya orang tua dalam mengangani masalah yang dialami dalam pengasuhan anak tunagrahita. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran permasalahan yang dialami orang tua dalam pengasuhan anak tunagrahita. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode studi kasus deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini mengambil dua subjek yaitu orang tua dari BA dan orang tua L memiliki anak tunagrahita sedang. Hasil penelitian, bahwa orang tua belum memahami tentang ketunagrahitaan anak. Sikap awal yang ditunjukan orang tua keduanya sama- sama merasa kecewa, namun tidak berlangsung lama karena dukungan dari dalam dan dari luar diri orang tua. Masalah yang dihadapi orang tua yang dianggap paling berat adalah ketika berkomunikasi dengan anak, ketika ia mengajarkan binadiri pada anak, dan belajar di rumah. Orang tua harus selalu memberi pengertian dan pengulangan dalam mengajarkan sesuatu. Orang tua BA maupun L sama-sama sering melatih anaknya dalam mengurus diri, belajar berbicara, baca, tulis, dan hitung agar anaknya bisa terus berkembang sesuai potensinya. ------------ Many problems are encountered by parents in taking care of children with mental disabilities; for example, in their academic life, the children have problems with reading, writing, counting; parents also have problems in taking care of the children in their daily life; and in communication. The research focuses on parents' understanding of their children's mental disabilities, parents' attitudes towards their children's mental disabilities, and parents' efforts in solving the problems encountered in taking care of mentally disabled children. In general, the research aims to find about the problems encountered by parents in taking care of their mentally disabled children. It adopted the descriptive case study method with qualitative approach to obtain comprehensive information. The research involved two subjects, namely the parents of BA and the parents of L, both with moderate mental disabilities. The findings show that the parents have not understood their children's mental disabilities. The initial attitudes exhibited by both parents were that of disappointment, but it did not last long because of internal and external support. The most difficult problems encountered by both parents take place when communicating with their children, teaching them self-care, and helping the children study at home. The parents should always give understanding and repetition in teaching something. Both the parents of BA and L often train their children in taking care of themselves, talking, reading, counting, in order for their children to continue developing according to their potentials.
