Penelitian ini berawal dari permasalahan yang peneliti temukan di kelas VII-B SMPN 12 Bandung terkait dengan rendahnya aktivitas belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Permasalahan yang dijumpai yakni pertama, saat guru meminta untuk membaca buku paket, siswa terlihat mengobrol dan mengganggu teman sebangkunya yang sedang membaca. Kedua, saat guru menyampaikan materi, siswa tidak menyimak serta bosan dengan penyampaian materi yang dilakukan oleh guru. Ketiga, beberapa siswa tidak mencatat materi pembelajaran. Terakhir hanya ada beberapa orang yang berani bertanya. Akan tetapi pertanyaan yang di ajukan kurang relevan dengan materi pelajaran. Selain itu siwa menjawab pertanyaan yang di ajukan guru dengan serentak dan masih ragu-ragu. Meninjau permasalahan yang akan diteliti berkaitan dengan aktivitas belajar siswa, maka peneliti memilih metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan menggunakan model Kemmis dan Taggart dalam tiga siklus penelitian. Pada setiap siklus di mulai dengan perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Instrumen penelitiannya menggunakan lembar observasi dan lembar wawancara. Alternatif pemecahan masalah yang dipilih yaitu penerapan strategi aktif tipe index card match. Berdasarkan pada penelitian yang telah dilakukan, menunjukan bahwa penerapan strategi aktif tipe index card match dapat meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil pencapaian siswa dalam setiap pelaksanaan siklus mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan, mulai dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga dari kategori cukup menjadi baik. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan penerapan penerapan strategi aktif tipe index card match dapat meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa.---This research started from the problems that researchers found in class VII-B SMPN 12 Bandung associated with low student learning activities in IPS learning. The problems encountered were first, when the teacher asked to read the packaged book, the students were seen chatting and annoying their reading friend. Secondly, when teachers deliver materials, students do not listen and bored with the delivery of material done by the teacher. Third, some students do not record learning materials. Lastly, there are only a few people who dare to ask. However, the question asked is less relevant to the subject matter. In addition, the students answer the questions asked by the teacher simultaneously and still in doubt. Reviewing the problems to be studied in relation to student learning activities, the researchers chose the method of Classroom Action Research (PTK) using Kemmis and Taggart model in three research cycles. Each cycle begins with planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interview and documentation. The research instrument uses an observation sheet and an interview sheet. The selected problem-solving alternative is the implementation of an active strategy of index card match type. Based on the research that has been done, shows that the implementation of an active strategy type of index card match can improve student learning activities. This can be seen from the achievement of students in every implementation of the cycle has increased significantly, starting from the first cycle until the third cycle of the category is quite good. So it can be concluded that the application of the active strategy of index card match type can increase student learning activity.
