Summary: | Mathematical understanding and reasoning ability of junior high school students is still low. This study aims to analyze the improvement of mathematical understanding and reasoning ability of students and self-confidence of the students who received the realistic mathematics education learning and students who received conventional learning. This research was a quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design. The population was students at seventh grade in one of junior high school in Jambi. The sample consist of two classes which was selected by purposive sampling. The instrument of this research are mathematical understanding test, mathematical reasoning test and self-confidence questionnaire. The data analysis using quantitative analysis. The data analysis showed that the improvement of mathematical understanding and reasoning ability of the students who received the realistic mathematics education learning is better than students who received conventional learning and the improvement of self-confidence of the students who received the realistic mathematic education learning is not better than students who receive conventional learning. ---- Rendahnya kemampuan kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis siswa SMP melatar belakangi penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan pembelajaran matematika realistik dan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional; menelaah self-confidence siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan pembelajaran matematika realistik dan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent control group. Populasi dalam penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII pada sala satu SMP di Jambi. Sampel dalam penelitian ini dua kelas yang dipilih berdasarkan purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa tes kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis serta angket self-confidence. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan analisis kuantitatif. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan pembelajaran matematika realistik lebih baik secara signifikan daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional dan peningkatan self-confidence siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan pembelajaran matematika realistik tidak lebih baik secara signifikan daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional. |
