Description
Summary:The purpose of this descriptive study was to examine teachers' perception toward learner autonomy and how they promote it in actual classroom practices. Despite the fact that learner autonomy is gaining popularity as an educational phenomenon, little research on how teachers' perceptions are enacted in teaching practices, particularly in the Indonesian context. Two types of questionnaire were administered to take the data. In addition to the questionnaire, interview and classroom observations were conducted to examine how their perceptions were translated into the classroom practices. The observations were done to see whether participants' perception matched with their actual practices. In doing this, both participants were observed and video-recorded in eight session totals. The results showed that the teachers have a partial understanding of learner autonomy concept. Resulting in little evidence of strategies used to promote learner autonomy in the classroom. Thus, it is observable that there is an alignment between the teachers' partial understanding of learner autonomy concept and their teaching practices. This might be due to cultural context and values held by the participants. The findings of this study will provide teachers and policy-makers gain new insights into the implementation of learner autonomy in the classroom.----Tujuan dari penelitian deskriptif ini adalah untuk menguji persepsi guru terhadap otonomi pelajar dan bagaimana mereka mempromosikannya dalam praktik kelas yang sebenarnya.
