Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi peserta didik yang saat ini kurang mengamalkan sikap demokrasi saat mengikuti proses pembelajaran sehingga para peserta didik terlihat pasif di dalam kelas yang seharusnya terwujud pembelajaran kelas aktif serta belum maksimalnya pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru dalam membiasakan suasana demokratis dan menyenangkan sesuai kehidupan nyata sehingga perlu perbaikan untuk terwujudnya kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu 1) untuk mengetahui pendekatan pembelajaran apa saja yang dilakukan oleh guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi dan untuk mengidentifikasi 2) hambatan-hambatan yang dialami guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi serta mengetahui 3) sejauh mana upaya mengatasi hambatan-hambatan guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif dan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, studi dokumentasi dan catatan lapangan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian teruangkap bahwa: 1) Pendekatan pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi ini perlu memperbaiki cara mengajar untuk lebih mewujudkan suasana aktif dan demokratis; 2) Hambatan-hambatan yang dialami guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi; dan 3) Upaya untuk mengatasi hambatan-hambatan yang dialami guru PPKn dalam mewujudkan kelas sebagai Laboratorium Demokrasi melalui keterbukaan antara guru dengan peserta didik dan membiasakan penerapan sikap demokratis di dalam kelas dilaksanakan secara berkala.;---This research is based on the condition of learners who are currently lack of the practices in showing their sense of democracy that can be seen through their passive learning in the class. Thus, it should be changed by teachers as the class need to be maximalized into an active class, fullfiled with democratic and enjoyfull atmosphere like the real life. Based on that, it needs an improvement to create a class Laboratory of Democracy. The purpose of this research are 1) to know the various approaches that can be used by Civic Education teachers in creating a class as the Laboratory of Democracy and to identify 2) challenges experienced by Civic Education teachers in creating a class as the Laboratory of Democracy and to know 3) how far Civic Education teachers overcome the challenges in creating a class as Laboratory of Democracy. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive method and data collection is done by interview, observation, documentation study and field note. Based on the results of the research, it is found that: 1) The learning approach by the Civic Education teachers in creating the class as Democracy Laboratory needs to be improved in term of teaching method to make the atmosphere more active and democratic; 2) The challenges experienced by Civic Education teachers in creating the class as a Laboratory of Democracy; and 3) The efforts to overcome the challenges experienced by Civic Education teachers in creating the class as a Laboratory of Democracy through the intereactions between teachers and learners and the application of democratic attitudes in the classroom periodically.
